Banjo and Kazooie, Mumbo, and Bottles were all huddled around a table in the bear and bird's home; invovled in a fierce game of poker. Banjo was badly losing, but that's not to say Kazooie was trying to come up with every concievable way to help him cheat. A storm had just started outside, and little did the four know that it was going to reflect the events in their lives in a short amount of time. Klungo, Gruntilda's faithful servant, was continuing his daily routine of trying to push the giant boulder off of the hole that Grunty had been trapped in for the last two years. It was staring to seem hopeless. Then, from deep underground, a giant machine roared it's way up into Spiral Mountain. It shook the entire area as if a small earthquake had began, and it concerned the four poker buddies. Mumbo elected himself to go outside and check to see what all the fuss was about. Kazooie saw this as the perfect oppurtunity to steal some of Mumbo's money. Bottles, being the moral authority that he is, dissapproved of such activity...
Meanwhile, the drivers of the drilling machine were none other than Gruntilda's two evil sisters. They had come to free their sis that they hadn't seen since childhood, as they knew she wouldn't be able to use her Satanic powers much longer to stay alive. As they recited the Boulder Blaster spell and rescued Gruntilda, Mumbo looked on in horror. Gruntilda crawled her way out of the cold earth, and looked at what was left of her body. Nothing but bone and some pale cartilage was left. Her body had withered away, having to use so much black magic to stay alive over the last two years. Her sisters told her not to worry, for they had built a machine that could suck the life force out of anything and use it to replenish her body. However, they would have to go to the sisters' island stronghold. However, before they left, they caught Mumbo spying on their conversation. Outraged, Grutnilda began to cast green fireballs the shaman's way, as he ran as fast as he could back to the house. Once there, he warned everybody that Gruntilda was coming. At first they didn't believe him, until Banjo saw her standing outside charging up a large fireball that would come directly their way. Everyone raced out as fast as they could, except Bottles (who thought it was just another scam to cheat a poker). With a great force the fireball hit and the innards of the house were blown to kingdom come. As Gruntilda and her sisters left for the castle, the sisters sent out their troops to destroy Spiral Mountain. Klungo was also instructed to stay behind, as Gruntilda informed him that she would return to the Lair eventually. With that, the drill machine went back from where it came from...
Morning came; and Banjo, Kazooie, and Mumbo awoke, having been rocked by the force of the explosion the night before. As they stared in astonishment at the remains of the house, Bottles the mole came swaggering out. He was charred to a crisp, and barely able to walk. With one last sway, he fell to the ground...dead. The surviving trio knew what had to be done. Go and defeat Gruntilda. Mumbo told the bear and bird duo to go ahead, and that he would meet up with them later. Banjo looked down and shook his head, knowning that it wouldn't be so easy this time...
