Mario's Biography
Species: HumanFor as long as the Kongs have existed, they've had a rival. And of all the possible rivals, it's a fat little plumber in overalls.
Mario, born with his brother Luigi in the Mushroom Kingdom, was actually destined for some of his own solo adventures from the start. When the brothers were born, Kamek, Head Magikoopa of the Koopa Empire, foretold that they would bring grave misfortune to the Empire's plans. After a long, botched kidnapping attempt, the babies' parents realized that they would not be safe in the Kingdom any longer, and were forced to consult the local wizards and find a different world to live new identities in-Brooklyn, to be exact.
Raised to believe he was of Italian descent, Mario led a fairly normal life as a simple guy, first taking a job as a carpenter. He struck up with a dame named Pauline, and all was going well until a fateful day when the cruiseship they were on crashed on a remote, ape-populated island. Mario and Pauline braved the possible dangers and took a look around, but forgot to care for the wildlife by littering, causing small fires, and more. Deciding to teach them a lesson, a local chief rushed out of the foliage and decided to lead Mario on a merry chase with Pauline as the bait. As chance would have it, this gorilla was none other than Donkey Kong Sr., with his son the Jr.. Enraged, Mario set out to follow the ape all over the island, and eventually got Pauline back and trapped DK in a cage. DK Jr., however, fiddled with the locks, freed his father, and sent him on a freefall that injured him quite badly. Pauline sailed back home eventually with the injured Mario, both with a bitter grudge against the Kong family.
Soon after, Mario and Pauline broke up, and he and Luigi decided a career change was needed. It wasn't much better, however-they just switched from an average carpenting company to a cake factory. That worked out even worse, so they tried plumbing. That worked for some time, until another fateful day, where on a routine pipe fix they found an interdimensional rip in the space-time continuum and were sucked in. After being hurled through the fabric, they were dropped in another dimension and trapped when the hole closed behind them. Of all places they could have ended up, it was their birthplace-The Mushroom Kingdom.
It wasn't exactly the best place to be, however. The Koopa Empire had started its master plan of taking over the Kingdom, and their king, Bowser Koopa, had kidnapped Princess Peach Toadstool, current leader of the Mushrooms. Deciding that they couldn't just sit around, Mario and Luigi set out to Bowser's castle, stomped on his henchmen, and threw him into a pit of lava, apparently killing him forever. They were decreed heroes, and while their parents had died a while back in Brooklyn, the old Mushroom Wizards remembered them, and announced that these were the two that would be protectors whenever evil reared its ugly head. Peach took a liking to Mario, while Luigi stayed by his lonesome self and often let his brother take most of the credit.
Time rolled by, and Mario and Luigi had many more adventures-Bowser turned out to have survived and returned countless times, sometimes with kids of his own; Mario once dreamed of a world called Sub-Con where he, Luigi, Peach and one of the many Toads saved the residents from a fat amphibian named Wart; Mario and Luigi were reunited with a dinosaur species called the Yoshi that had helped them when they were infants; and he even had to team up with Bowser once to defeat a mighty alien warlord named Smithy.
Things took a familiar turn, however, when the space-time rip Mario had encountered opened back up and began to merge the Mushroom Dimension and our own together, which could have disastrous consequences. The Mushroom Royal Family decided that one of their mystical treasures, the Power Trophy, could be used to seal the dimensions back together. A race was set up for fun to see who could own the trophy after it was used, but before it could begin, an old enemy wandered into Mario's life in the shape of the now-grown Donkey Kong Jr. Curious about the Kingdom he could see in the distance, DK had come a distance from his own island to investigate. After some arguing, they decided to let him participate. He ended up kicking booty, and was allowed to keep the Power Trophy. While he sealed up the dimensions to prevent any harm, a bit later some Toad scientists found a safe way to open up a portal to any dimension, and any time Mario decided to throw a tournament for the public sponsored by him, he would invite DK along for the ride. Eventually, their feelings for each other changed from bitter hatred to a friendly rivalry, and they learned to get along a bit better.
Mario still resides in the Mushroom Kingdom, along with that other plumber. He still has many adventures of his own, but bugger us if you want to know about them; this place is about DK.
