Movie Synopsis/Analysis

For the benefit of those of you with really crappy modems, or the just-plain-too-busy-to-be-arsed among us, we've taken the libery of downloading and watching the MK:DD! movies and offering brief summaries here. It's not quite as good as seeing the actual films, but hey, we're doing all the work for you so shut up.

IGN 1-Minute E3 Movie

The camera sweeps widely over a primarily green racetrack which a logo in the bottom right hand corner designates as "Luigi Curcuit". After clearly displaying such elements as a chain chomp and a large blimp, it centers on the cart containing Mario (driver) and Luigi. They immidiatly pass over a treadmill thing that gives them a speed boost over a small drop. Luigi punches off to the side thrice (presumably the attack used when there are no items). Also, let it be known that all of the carts use a rack-and-pinion steering set-up.They drive into a line of item boxes and get a triple-mushroom. The three mushrooms hover over Luigi's outstretched palm. He uses 2 of them as he powerslide's around the Chain Chomp.

The camera previews a new level called DK Mountain. It highlights a gargantuan barrel cannon and a large volcano, complete with falling rocks. The cart this time contains Donkey and Diddy Kong. They go around a quite curvy track until they reach an item box, giving them a lighning bolt. They are in 8th place, so its possible that the more powerful items are given out when the player is in last place, like in MK64. When they use the item, an individual bolt of lightning hits each racer, shrinking them. The cart drives straight into the barrel cannon.

The next clip takes place in a dirt-bike type course like Wario Stadium. The camera in uses a cinematic aprroach, rather than a functional one. It doesn't follow behing any character, but shows the race from different wide angles, often from the front. It also doesn't show any game information like speed or placement. The players start out by going over a huge bump that propels them pretty far into the air. They then curve around into a long passage with a series of small bumps. Paratroopa is holding a large Bo-Bomb, which detonates just off-camera, sending several carts flying. The racers go around another curve onto a bump which propels them through a spinning ring of fireballs. This gives us a good view of the spectators, made up entirely of Mario characters, including Toads, Boos, Shy Guys and Goombas. Close-up on Mario and Luigi as they change places, Mario bringing out a red shell.

Nintendo 1-Minute E3 Movie

A continuation of the first shot from the previous movie, Mario and Luigi pass the Chain Chomp and powewrslide around a hairpin turn.

A cart driven by Peach and gunned by Bowser runs into a giant banana peel, presumably a custom weapon of Donkey or Diddy Kong. It does not appear to be more powerful, just more difficult to avoid. They spin out, and continue on their way.

Luigi and Baby Luigi are driving in Mushroom City. Baby Luigi uses a custom weapon, a giant Chain Chomp who pulls them forward at a faster rate and, tosses away everything in its path. Even the car hazards.

Continuation of the second shot from the previous movie. It picks up right when Donkey and Diddy enter the barrel cannon. The cannon shoots them to the summit of the volcano. The path isn't parabolic, but instead seems to be a straight line with an abrupt drop at the end. Tsk tsk, Nintendo. They continue down a steep bumpy path.

A 2-player split screen at the beginning of Luigi Circuit. One conataining Mario (the driver is obscured) is holding a lighning bolt, and the other containing Daisy and Peach is surrounded by a sparkling aura indicating that she is using a power star. Mario uses the lightning. The car spins out, but doesn't shrink. Instead it appears to make Daisy dance. Go figure. Cut to a quick shot of 4-player split-screen and fade to logo.

IGN Movie 1

Wario and Diddy in the Wario car. They turn a corner and drive along side a wiggler-shaped bus. At the next intersection, the wiggle turns in front of them. They, along with a car containing Bowser and Birdo, run into it, backfliping once. Before they can get going, a green shell hits them from behind, causing them to flip forward, Diddy hanging on by his fingertips.

They regain their composure, collect an item crate, and continue down a winding section of track. The crate gives the a triple mushroom. Diddy spins around, facing towards the camera with the mushrooms hovering above his open palm. He uses the mushrooms by making a throwing motion with his arm. They go left around a rectangular hole in the track. When they are halfway around, oe of Birdo's eggs hits them from behind. While they flip out, some sort of wind-up bomb and a stagnant green shell pop out of the egg.

As they start to accelerate again, the immediatly run into the unmoving green shell, when flips them out again. Before they can ever regain their balance, a bomb cart runs into them, sending them high into a double somersault. They contunue on their way. They collect an item crate which is moving along the road like a car, and us the mushgroom it gives them right after they cross the line into their second lap.
