BaronKrusha's Donkey Kong Country 2 Review

Rare does the impossible by creating life-like graphics on a 16-bit machine, thus adding a few more years on the aging console. Topping that great feat would seem impossible, but Rare pulled it off. Diddy and new Kong to the clan, Dixie, look less digitized. And if you look closely, even the hairs on their body move realistically. And the Kremlings look so real, you'd wish you could feel their scaly skin. And the levels look great, too. Little details like the wind in the woods, the clouds above the galleon, and the waves in the water add to the already incredible game.

Holy cow, the music in this game is incredible. Take the bramble levels for example, the setting is high above the clouds in a giant stickerbush. Everything is calm and quiet. The music fits right in to the level like a hand in a glove, or something. Definitely one of the most underrated soundtracks of all time, if not THE MOST UNDERRATED. That, and the sound effects are a great improvement over the original. Each of the Kremling have their own cry when defeated It's always fun to toss a TNT barrel at Kudgel and listen to him bellow and see 'em spas. And there must be millions of monkey noises. And all of this in Stereo, huzzah! (Get the soundtrack at eBay as soon as possibly, or I will hurt you!)

If you can believe it, the control is much tighter than in DKC, and that's not saying the control is bad in DKC. Diddy and Dixie are both lightweights, so they both move rather fast. Gliding with Dixie is always easy, and taking out Kremlings with your partner is simple, if not humorous. The animal buddies are also a blast. The originals can now charge up their attacks to take out several baddies with a single push (or hold) of a button. Each animal is controlled differently, Squawks is airborne, so you must keep pressing that button to keep him from falling, Rambi is slow, so it will take a while for him to gain speed, and Enguarde is speedy underwater. Impressive control all around.

Aside being a platform game, Donkey Kong Country 2 provides one of the best video game experiences ever! The graphics are incredible, the sound is incredible...ack...the controls are incredible! IT'S INCREDIBLE MADNESS!!! Okay, so maybe the plot is a bit overused, but who cares when you have the greatest platformer of all time? Just buy it, and decide, for yourself, if this is an original game.

My favorite platformer of all time! You've got great graphics, kick-a$$ music, incredible tight control, and that dark thing that attracts gamers like a magnet, or flies to a horse's butt. Honestly, buy this game, and drool.
