Slush's Diddy Kong Racing Review

DKR is one beatiful game. The drivers and environments are made from polygons, but are hardly blocky. Instead, thanks to Rare's RDA technology, they move very lifelike and everything is smooth. As a race game, moving at fast speeds doesn't mean uglier graphics for this game. Everything is done great.

The music for DKR is superb. It's usually light and cheery, and can get stuck in your head after continious play. The voices for each of the characters are also well done, from Banjo's redneckish dialogue to Timber's impression of a gay boy scout. It was a mild dissapointment to hear Diddy sound like a girl, but once puberty works it's way up to his voice box, it'll (hopefuly) improve. Great sound effects are also included, from the basic engine noises to the ocean breaking waves.

Oh, oh, oh. The play control makes many people horny....it's just that good. It's the old saying "easy to learn, hard to master." You'll be able to pick up the game right away and start playing, especially if you're a Mario Kart 64 vet. Cars and planes are usually no problem, but the hovercraft is where the challenge lies. Of course, once you get a grip on the incredibly loose control, you'll be able to drive the hovercraft likeit's nobody's business.

Don't believe the "industry experts." DKR is totally original. Mario Kart 64 was in development at the same time as DKR (DKR started production shortly after DKC2 was finished).Mario Kart 64 just made it out first. And Rare went the extra mile with bosses, an overworld, cinema scenes, ballons, silver coins, more to a battle mode than just shooting people down, hidden characters, three vehicles, and a big genie that sounds like Apu. Oh yeah!

This game was all the rage when it first came out, and critics couldn't stop praising it....but somehow after time passed the critics took a fonding to MK64 once again and regarded this game as a slice of worm ridden filth. Don't believe the hype. PLAY THIS GAME, BUY THIS GAME, NEVER LET THIS GAME GET DUSTY. This game is also very important to DK Universe continuity, introducing new characters Banjo and Conker....who we all now know to be two of the main swingers in the DK Universe. And who knows what other DKR racers will get their own games. Tiptup is the obvious dream of many, for what reason we dont' know. But I think a game called "Pipsy's Tongue Licker" would be pretty domn cool! And I realize I said "domn."
