The DKU

01/23/00

Hello I just checked out your DK site and it rocks! Well i was goin to send you a e-mail but this would be faster so....anyhoo, I have a question who is you favorite DK64 character?
-Phantom Kirby

Right.... well, this is Chad answering this question. I suppose that's neccesary knowledge for the answer to be properly interpreted, eh? My favorite character is Lanky. I was leaning towards Chunky because he's so incredibly funny, but Lanky is.... I don't know.... FUNNIER! The one thing that tipped the scales to Lanky for me was this render. I believe this is among, if not the best DKU render ever. Look at him! Hahah! Slush likes Lanky best as well. Answer your question?

Ok, I visited your site, and boy was I glad I did. It's truly great. I love everything Donkey Kong (to the extent where I bought an N64 just so I could play Donkey Kong 64!) But anyway, I just wanted to compliment you. Out of all the Donkey Kong sites I've seen, yours is the best.

Also, today I finally saw the TV show Donkey Kong Country that you were all talking about and I do agree that that was the biggest piece of trash I've ever seen in my life. Especially Candy Kong. Yuck. And guess what, the episode I saw just happened to be about the crystal coconut. Yuck.

Oh, and one more thing: where's your review of DK64? I didn't see it up yet. I'm interested to see what you have to say about it.
-Lark

Wow, that's quite a compliment. Thank you. And yes, the TV show is awful. I believe we've covered that by now. And don't worry, every episode of that waste of 30 minutes revolves around the "crystal coconut" and picnics. You aren't missing a thing. And our reviews will be up very soon, if they're not already up. Yes indeed. Hey, don't you love that Lanky render?

Here's a letter for your letters section. It's about the DK of old. Now recently you guys reported about some new DK GBC game. Lucky me, I just sold my old GB and bought a new GBC. Well, since it is supposedly called Donkey Kong, did you ever come to think that it is based on the old game (1981)? I mean I don't think there just going to go make another Donkey Kong Land (would they?).

Also, are you the only people who believe in this Donkey Kong Universe? I don't like how you cut out the old Donkey Kong Games. You should listen to Cranky Kong more often. Although, I'm a huge fan of the SNES, Donkey Kong started before that in America's Arcades.
-Little Luigi "I'm Luigi, Number One!"

First of all, it's been confirmed that Rare is making Donkey Kong. The only reason it's called Donkey Kong right now is because Donkey Kong 64 didn't have a "Country" or some geographical name at the end, and since it will probably be a follow up to DK64, they had to take away the 64 on the tentative name and got Donkey Kong.

As for our beliefs in the Donkey Kong Universe, we're not saying you can't like the old games. It's just we don't, and the DK series can be viewed as one (with the old and new together) or as two (with the old and new separated). And true, Donkey Kong was born in the arcades. But the Donkey Kong Universe was born on the good old SNES (I bet you hate us using that phrase, eh?).

In celebration of your detachment from Hypermart, I have created this jazzy Congo Jungle theme for your page.
-SirNick5

Woah, alright! Thanks! You have just created the Official Theme of the January 23, 1999 Letters Edition! It shall forever play in the background of this edition of Letters. We thank you for your service to this bit o' server space striking out on its own in the world.

How do i get to fungi forest? I dont see the barrel that should take me there??
-Gregory Stewart

No need for the question marks at the end of the second sentence there, as it wasn't a question. Oh-kay, Fungi Forest can be reached after you've beaten both Frantic Factory and Gloomy Galleon (and taken the keys to K. Lumsy's cage). K. Lumsy will start jumping up and down, blah blah blah, a rock off shore near BANANAPORT 3 will blow up revealing a cannon. Jump in and it will shoot you up to the outside entrance of the level lobby.

I have a lot to say.
1. Thanks for the screenshot of Web Woods.
2. Great site.
3. I understand what you mean about the DKC TV series. But since that you have already answered all the DKCTV carp from other letters, I don't need to say any more.
4. I don't usually ask any help but how do you get past the Fungi Forest boss??? Near the end, all the lava comes up and Dragonfly flies away. But where does Chunky go?? It's driving me crazy!
5. What are your greatest records for the Rambi and Enguarde bonus games? In the Rambi beaver killin' bonus, I got 186 and in Enguarde's bonus, I got 235. So, your best?
6. Why did Rare put Fungi Forest in DK64? It is a completely un DKC related level! The music is just too much like Banjo Kazooie and....It's just not like DKC!!!
Well, that's all for me.
-DINEL413@webtv.net

1: You're welcome, and that will be $6.99 or the head of a goat.
2: Thank you, it looks as if our subliminal messages are working. Bow before us, keep coming here, tell your friends about us....
3: Uh..........of course.
4: You're apparently not beating him fast enough. The platform starts to sink, and Dogadon flies away, and Chunky drowns in the lava flow. You have to move quicker after the platform starts to sink.
5: I don't play those games much, so my scores are: Rambi-204 Enguarde-220. Chad obsesses over the Enguarde bonus, so his are Rambi-164 Enguarde-285.
6: Fungi Forest is pretty cool. It's not like DKC? Don't make me link you to Chad's Theory of Evolution Feature. Actually, Banjo-Kazooie was going to have a level called Fungus Forest, but it was dropped. That may explain why it "sounds" like B-K in your opinion.

Hi!!!!! Oh my God, I played Donkey Kong for the first time today, and it like so totally rocked. Oh, the other day, when I was painting my nails (racy pink-it's the color of the year!!), I was wondering. How do they fit those cute cuddly little monkeys in the tv screen? I don't get it. Thanks a bunch!!!!
-Meredith

Magic. Magic, and a whole lot of WD-40.

"And wait one cotton pickin' minute. SirNick5???? A "Sir" followed by a name followed by a number? That's.....not right....."

Well, Sir Nick has been around for two years; which is longer than Banjo-Kazooie has been around, and the origin of Sir Slush was born at the credits of BK. THEREFORE, Sir Slush has been around for a shorter period of time and is less significant than Sir Nick. Besides "SirSlush2" is a "Sir" followed by a name followed by a number. AND mine is one character less.
-SirNick5
P.S. Thanks for the info on the DK soundtrack.

Well.........MINE'S ONE CHARACTER MORE!

I CANNOT GET THROUGH FUNGI FOREST, I CANNOT GET THE GOLDEN BANANA IN THE BASEMENT, WITH DIDDY. HOW CAN I GET IT BY FLYING WITH DIDDY'S TAIL?
-SETH

You do know that I'm capable of reading lowercase letters as well, right? Anyway, I think it's time to do away with the black text, as you all should be at LEAST up to Fungi Forest by now. If you don't want to know the answer to the question, don't read it. Here we go. There are no basements in Fungi Forest, but I think I may know what you're talking about. There's the attic with Squawks' torchlight. To get that banana, just follow the rafters. There's also a mill which you may be talking about...to get that banana, simply shoot all the bats to make Hover Vines descend. Simple as that. Now leave my sight.

In a Disney Adventures issue, they have a DK comic! It's cool! By the way, I have a question for you. Does the Vine have a themesong?
-KAVM 3

Really? A DK comic? Hmmm....it only makes sense that Disney is trying to take over Nintendo and Rare. Hitler had a deal with the company, you know.....

Maybe I should check it out (whatever issue it was), but then I don't think Disney needs anymore money in their world conquest scheme. As for our themesong..... hmmm.... ummm........ Cheeseburgers in Paradise.

Hey! How about a message board?
-Little Luigi

Woahwoahwoah. Message Boards are places where anything can happen. The visitors have complete control (unless it's moderated). As of now, we don't have the time to moderate one. We spent five months of (grueling) daily updates making DK's Jungle Vine what it is today, and we're not about to let you hooligans overrun it. It's not totally out of the question though. Right now, all we can say is "all in good time."

In your screenshots section, the picture of a jeep is under Tiny in front of DK door, and vice versa. Also, would you please link my site? It is new, but is coming along pretty well. Thanks.
-Nygregny

Blame the picture on Our Friend. He messed up the link. But it's fixed now, as we gave Our Friend a punishment (bobbing for apples in chlorine). And we don't link many sites often, but we decided to go ahead and link your's (we're feeling generous, and the laughing gas has been on in Slush's house for five days straight).
