Well, we're not quite a walkthrough site, but I'm sure this picture of an evil amoeba will help you through your DK64 difficulties.

First off I want to ask you, am I bothering you? It's just that I been sending so many letters and artwork and I wanted to know if I was sending you guys too much. Secondly, I would like to ask you guys what Game Boy DK Land Game I should buy. I've played DKC 1-2 on the SNES. Should I go with DKL 3 since I haven't played DKC 3 on the SNES. How is the color on the Game Boy Color?
-Little Luigi
P.S. Tell Diddy that us sidekicks don't get enough credit! He gets Diddy Kong Racing and I get Mario is Missing!!!! It's time we get a good game!!!!!!
No, not bothering us one bit. We live for your sort of e-mails. All you readers could learn a thing or two from Little Luigi. He's becoming one of our finest letter patrons. Even asking if he's bothering us. Now THERE'S class! And as for your main questions, it would be a close match between DKL and DKL III. Both were VERY original. However, having not played DKC 3, you need to get DKL III to meet Kiddy. And it's a very fun game, with that Memory Match and all.
P.S. Are you implying that Diddy Kong Racing isn't a good game? I take back everything I said above. GET OUT!
Great site. You guys are hillarious. I bought my 7 yr old daughter (and me) the new DK64 game. We have never played DK before this purchase and we are having the darndest time right off the bat with Cranky's practice barrels. We got thru all but the orange granades. Every time we sneek up on the grenade, no matter how slow, the grenade is pushed away. A couple of times we were close enough to crouch and grab using the "Z" button as instructed, but Kongs arms just wave over or thru the orange. Is there something more we should be doing while we are using the "Z" trigger to pick 'em up? Thanks
-Don R.
Well, if those barrels are giving you trouble, you may want to consider holing out for the next four years to complete the game. All you have to do is run over the oranges (which will automatically collect them), hold Z, and press C-right for however many oranges you collected. Was that answer good enough or do I need to spell it phonetically?
I found someting in one of Chad's updates:
Next up on the Vine's Update-and-Run Parade is a muscle-bound source code named Mario Party 2 First Impressions. It's determined to rain on your parade, so you'd better be on your toes. It will leap high in the air, and land with enough force to cause an earthquake. Leap before it lands, or the shockwave will stun you. Steer clear of my first impressions within, too, or the next thing that quakes will be your head!
That's Nintendo Power's DKC2 Players' Guide's description of Kugel! Oh yeah, Slush, and what's with your ANNOYING DKU TRIVIA FACTS THAT YOU WANT TO DIE IN A HURRY
-KAVM 3@aol.com
Correct about Chad's update. That's not even the first time we did something stupid like that from a player's guide. We use those when we have severe writer's block. As for my ANNOYING DKU TRIVIA FACTS THAT YOU WANT TO DIE IN A HURRY, the reasoning is that even if my update sucks, you'll walk away learning something about Donkey Kong. Annoying, isn't it?
Do you think there will be a sequal to DK64? If so, when do you think it will be?
-Samantha
I'll take the short route on answering this question. Future DK games: Yes. Sequel on Nintendo 64: No.
Chad,
Let me just say this: Donkey Kong 64 is NOT a perfect game. You overlooked some things that are on the game in your review.
1.) GRAPHICS - You're right about everything, but you forgot to mention how there are almost no textures for the sky.
2.) SOUND - Music WAS perfect, I'll admit that, but the sound effects were often repetitive and annoying (Tiny's squeak when she jumps or floats).
3.) CONTROL - All of the Kongs move very slow (DK moves slower than Banjo), which is a poor way to add length to a game.
4.) ORIGINALITY - You said it was the deepest and most original plots of any previous video game - every hear of a little game called Zelda 64? In fact, with this review you've created, I've started to appreciate Zelda 64 even more.
DK is above average, and worth the buy, but we have yet to find a perfect game. Giving all 10s to a game must mean it's absolutely perfect, right?
-SirNick5@AOL.com
Crap, you're going to make me defend my opinions? I don't know about you, but I live in America, and I can hide behind the First Amendment. But because websites are global and such, I suppose I'll have to explain my review.
1. Oh, yes, and the real sky is just FULL of textures. Shame on you, Rare.
2. I never noticed any repetition to the point of annoyance. Rare even recorded three or four different sounds the characters make randomly when they jump.
3. As I recall, the instruction booklet said that to get full speed, hold down the control stick all the way. DK64 is at a nice speed. Donkey wouldn't look right running at Banjo's speed. It would look like a yellow banana powerup in Crown Battle multiplayer mode.
4. DK64 itself didn't have a complex plot. But if you look at previous games and see WHY things in DK64 happened, it is incredibly deep. And just an interesting little tidbit... for Zelda's overall story to work, you would need three Links and three Zeldas. Zelda was a good game, but the story doesn't make sense. And if you like Zelda even more, then I'm not going to stand in your way. Go play it.
No one is forcing you to believe what my review says. I truly believe that there is nothing wrong with this game unless you WILL it to have faults. When I play a game I don't intentionally try to find fault. And let's face it... it was VERY hard to find fault in Donkey Kong 64. Therefore, if I don't see fault, why should I count off points for it? All I saw was Donkey's amazing spine indentation.
How the ehck do you beat that Fungi Forest rabbit race, 2nd time around? It's friggin IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!
-Behonkiss
It's simple, really. To beat the rabbit you must first find the great senile one.
I called Nintendo, and he said DK GB's name was changed to Donkey Kong Country. Don't ask me why.
-Devin529
Very good work, Devin. I didn't believe you, so I called myself. They indeed stated that their computers read the game as "Donkey Kong Country for Game Boy Color, released June 26th, 2000". We believe that this is not a final title. When Nintendo was entering it into their database, they saw that it was a DK game made by Rare, and called it Donkey Kong Country until the actual title was thought up. Still, good detective work.
And even though it is not a DKU page, it is a damn good one: Sector N. You'll find that in the Top Quotes section, DK ranked #1. The Congo Jungle theme (which I think I sent to you) is in the Music & MIDI, and a review is somewhere in the ruffle.
-SirNick5@AOL.com
I suppose you want us to link you, eh SirNick5? Well, I realize this may be a little unfair, but to get the link in Links, you must answer us these questions 3....
Question 1: What does the term "Kings Play Cards On Fat Green Stools" help you remember?
Question 2: Who was originally supposed to play the part of Indiana Jones, but couldn't due to an exclusive contract already signed?
Question 3: Domino's Pizza had a mascot that even starred in an old videogame or two. They dropped him quite awhile ago. NAME THIS MASCOT.
Unfair that you have to answer questions while the person who asked last time got by with it? Heh heh. Well, to keep our link page from being an overcrowded mess, anyone requesting a link will have to do more than the previous person. More questions, more tasks, more money. So answer these questions by the next Letters (whenever that may be), send them in, and the site will be added. Hey, we're jackasses!
