why is rare always designing these furry critters and never any slimy
ones?
-rommie@zianet.com
Slush: Because have you ever seen a company that makes fur look that friggin' realistic? Exactly.
Firstly I would like to say that this letter is a lot of VENTING about
the stupid morons who write in. You guys do a great job of sticking up for
yourselves, but I have to say *something*.
Ok, I am sick of all these people going on and on about Pokemon! Hello,
people! EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN OPINIONS!! THIS IS YOUR SITE AND IF YOU WANT TO TEAR POKEMON APART IT'S FINE! Geez.
Ok, and anyone who thinks that Zelda is helping Nintendo hang on is *so*
wrong! If someone wants a good RPG they should go play one of the Final
Fantasy games. Cloud and Squall could beat the crap outta Link.
DK64 was *not* a failure! Would I have spent the money to buy the whole
system for a "failure" game! I hope not!
Ok, here's my question for you guys now. Do you think Nintendo is going
to make it with the release of Playstation 2 in the fall? Sony has a lot of
fans (myself included, but I'll always like Nintendo better...), and the new
system will be able to play old games, new games *and* will be upgradable.
That's going to be hard for Nintendo to top. What do you think?
-*Lark*
P.S. Pokemon is *not* real anime! You want real anime, go watch Gundam
Wing on Cartoon Networks Toonami. There's a kick @$$ show.
P.S.S. Sorry about all the ranting...hehe..it's been a long day. Your
site rocks. Keep up the good work! :)
Chad: I agree with everything you said, except the Zelda comments. Zelda is quite a large franchise for Nintendo, and while the games are heavily overrated, they're quite good. I like them better than the Final Fantasy series in that you don't have to wait five minutes to defeat an enemy. I can't stand turn-based fighting. Anyway, on to the questions... I think Sony is just shoving a lot of useless crap into their system to sound all flashy. Nintendo will have awesome first and second party games, blah blah, support of Rare, blah blah, third party, blah. You've heard this a million times. I'm a Nintendo loyalist, so my opinions about Sony and Sega are quite biased, but I do know that their current systems (PSX and Dreamcast) are blown away by games like DK64 and B-T in at least the graphics category. And that's very embarrasing for Sega, considering their system is brand new.
P.S. I've heard good things about that show, actually. I'm not a big anime fan, but I'm sure it rocks the house in a suitable manner.
P.S.S. Thanks.
HALLO
I WANT TO NOW WHAT IS ON THE BANJO KAZOOIE SECRET PITCURE.
WHEN I ANSWARE THE CUESTION AND GET 10 OF 10 IT DO NOT COME
ANY PITCURE IT SAY (ALL THE ATHORE STUFF).
CAN YOU WROTE HOW I GET THE ICE KEY AND THE BLUE EGG AND THE
PURPLE EGG.
-nazi.fallahi@boras.mail.telia.com
Chad: Forgot your Riddelin, eh? Ah, well. I assume you're talking about the B-K version of Swanky's Strife. Well, there are no pictures. It was a joke, sir. A bad one at that, but a joke nonetheless. And getting the key, blue egg, and PINK egg is very simple. I don't know why people haven't tried it yet. Simply wait until August 28.
I herd on one rare related web page that rare was coming out with a
rabbit
character. The game was called "Rare Hare". What the heck's going on
here.
Is rare going to come out with this nintendo game in the near future.
Im trying to find out more on this subject.
-rommie@zianet.com
Slush: What site did you hear this from? I think I can safely say that the answer to this is NO, that game is nothing but some made-up internet BS, just like Diddy Kong Racing and Banjo-Kazooie both for Game Boy Color.
ok, so like, i read your response to my question, and
i was soooo like, huh? like, what's the deal with the
tongue and some junk? but anyway, i like, have another
question? if like, donkey kong country was suddenly,
like, taken over by k. rool and like, he decided to
totally outlaw all gum chewing, wouldn't that, like,
sooooo ruin everything? you know? because life is is
like, made up of three things: donkey kong, gum, and
like, leo dicaprio, you know? bye!!!!!!
-bil*anne~*
Chad: You do make a valid point. Wait.... didn't we answer this one a few months ago? Ah, never mind. Anyway, the only person it would really effect is Dixie, as we all know she lives off chewing gum. Well, I suppose Dixie's lack of gum would, in turn, effect Diddy. Cough.
OK, first, thanks for the Mr. Mooney award. Now to clear things up from my previous letters. First off, the DKC show is still on Fox Family Channel(Bad show on bad channel, fitting.), but it's on at the not-too-good time of 1:30 P.M. Fridays. Take THAT, show fans! And I might get the chance to play BFD after all. I was able to rent Perfect Dark under strict conditions(Great game, but not a DKU game), and my mom is considering letting me see the South Park movie. Maybe I'll be able to rent BFD and bathe in its' goodness. Wish me luck.
Also, I don't think you should think Dinosaur Planet is a DKU game just yet. While it most certainly could be(About 1/2 of Rare's games are DKU-related), I've looked at pictures of Tricky. He's not red, and he looks different, also. Something tells me that this isn't THAT Tricky. What makes you so sure? And this would also mean DK Island is on some freaky animal-person world. Let's face it, that would be too weird. Of course, if it is a DKU game, maybe characters from Jet Force Gemini would make a cameo appearance, making JFG a DKU game...drool. All righty then, I'm off.
-Behonkiss(Actually, that's just my brothers' term for arse.)
Slush: Glad to hear you have a shot at playing Conker's Bad Fur Day. Now, to pick apart the rest of your letter and whine about it (which is basically the only joy we get out of our days). We all know what the Dinosaur Planet team said. We know you read it and jumped on us about it rather quicky (as evidenced by your letter to Chad later on in this edition of Letters). And hopefully we all know our response to it (click HERE if you don't). If logically it made sense that it wasn't our Tricky, then we would take down our DP section and apologize for the mix-up. That's not going to happen, because both Chad and I agree that it makes too much sense (I mean, look at the character names: Sabre, Krystal, Kyte....TRICKY?) for it to be in the Donkey Kong Universe.
"And this would also mean DK Island is on some freaky animal-person world. Let's face it, that would be too weird." Okay, I don't mean to sound like a smart arse here or anything, as you have contributed some intelligent writing to our humble little hellhole. BUT (and I know I'm not SUPPOSED to start a sentence with but, but who gives a deer's nut about it anyway? I say screw grammar, as it hasn't provided a cure for cancer, HIV, or world hunger) but HUH? The game Dinosaur Planet takes place in another solar system and another galaxy. You travel to different planets. Earth, as far we know, plays no factor in it. Since this has a younger Tricky in it, that means it takes place before DKR and that Tricky was born in another galaxy. How did Tricky get to Earth? We don't know yet. That would explain why there are dinosaurs on Earth in the DKU after they became extinct...they came from beyond the stars.
"Of course, if it is a DKU game, maybe characters from Jet Force Gemini would make a cameo appearance, making JFG a DKU game...drool." Read our FAQ again. JFG came out before DP. Any appearances by JFG characters wouldn't make JFG a DKU game. That's why games like Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time aren't DKU. Well, wasn't that some fun complaining and nitpicking. Thank you!
I'll start off with my question, Wouldn't the original DK game have to be part of the DKU if it was in DK64?????
Now, I'm going to spill some beans on my claymation film project. It's going to feature something from the DKU, I don't want to say just yet. Expect a mention of your site as well. There should be some stills soon. I'm going to premiere the movie on my new site, coming soon. I'll send you some stills soon but they won't be part of the movie, they are just the characters.
Luigi, Number One is coming to a monitor near you...
Your not-so-humble fan,
-Little Luigi
Chad: A mention of the site, eh? Oooh, can't wait. Ahem. And no, the characters and events which took place in 1981's Donkey Kong would not be part of the DKU. The only thing in the DKU from that game is the plastic that it took to make the arcade console.
Hoo!Haa!Hee!Haa!Sorry!I'm!Kinda!In!A!Hurry!Right!Now...WHOA!*crashes into a
wall.*
Ow.....well,since I'm temporarily immobile,I might has well start up.
All's quiet on the non-E3 related Misc DKU Junk front. The next episode of
DK64:The Series will come next letter, but that;'s not the highlight of the
next issue.
Mr.Invisible Man:We have issues?SWEET!
Quiet,you.And no,we don't have issues.
M.IM:Aw.
Ignore him.Anyway,as I was saying, next letter will have the game idea for
the first chapter of my 4 chapter game series ten years after DK:TFB!Here's
some little spoilers for you to drool on:
-Crocodile Isle(the original, natural one)is back,as well as the force power.
-Everyone is 10 years older.
-DK and Candy are married.
-Cranky's kicked the bucket.(WOOHOO!)
-The main villian is a super-powered version of a past villian.(Take a wild
guess.)
-All 4 chapters are darker.(Think the evil, dark, scary theme of DKC2 and make
it 10 times more like that, and you have the basic setting for the 4 games!)
Welp, that's all for this tiny-tiny little letter.See ya next time! And
remember-Watch Where Ya Step!
*Okie Dokie,Dr.Jones!Hold onto your potato!*
Heehee,I love that!
-Sean King-Fighting off rancid Zelda fans with a spoon has never been so much
fun!
Chad: Wow, I didn't think it was possible, but you managed to steal each and every good idea from Slush and my dream games and combine them to form a game of your "own". Congratulations.
Hello Slush,
Sorry for confusing in my last letter. But I'm glad you knew I meant rare as in not a lot. Not Rareware.
Anyways, I didn't see the colorized DKLIII. I probably wouldn't buy it anyways. I heard about that item a few months ago.
And as for response to my P.S. "A great lover isn't someone who is with a hundred women in a lifetime, a great lover is someone who is with the same woman for a lifetime." You sir, are correct. I'm working on that. Know the lady, just someone else is with here. He's not Mario but he is my brother...
I passed by the LA convention center while on my trip. Too bad I missed E3. By a week too! I would've been all through that place. Or maybe not, my only focus in LA is food...
-Little Luigi
Slush: My only focus in L.A. is gunning down those West Side strawberries and slammin' their bitches afterwards. Oh, who am I kidding, I don't know how to street talk. And are you saying that your brother is with the person you're in love with? Take my love advice: keep doing your psycho Luigi obsession/impression thing. The ladies love that kind of pseudo-insanity stuff. Trust me....but don't send any angry letters if things don't work out or you get institutionalized.
We all know in DK64 that Donkey collected normal flavored bananas. In your
Lanky bio, you said Lanky collected blueberry flavored bananas, in the Tiny
bio, you said Tiny collected grape flavored bananas, and in the Chunky bio,
you said Chunky collected apple flavored bananas. But I don't know what
banana flavor Diddy collects. You Diddy bio doesn't say anything about what
flavor. What is the flavor?
-NES Boy
P.S. - Thanks for telling me that the Kremlings barricaded the way out of
Congo Jungle in DK64 in your Lanky bio. I didn't know DK was captured too.
Chad: Actually, we now think Chunky collects unripe bananas, as there are surely more of those on the island than apple-coloured ones. And they were in DKC3. Anyway, I suppose Diddy collects maricheno cherry-flavored bananas, as those are so very delicious.
P.S. I'll ignore your sarcasm for the moment. He wasn't actually captured, the Kremlings just put the gate there to slow him down for a bit. They must have anticipated Cranky being a characteristic tightwad, in making Donkey do the barrel challenges before getting the Simian Slam potion. If I were K. Rool, I would have just killed all the Kongs, but he seems to be quite the thick one.
Your site rocks a whole bunch, thanx for making a great DK site unlike this
one I found that said they cant wait for Donkey Kong Country3 to come out
-Reading05@frsd.k12.nj.us
Slush: That's one of the reasons we wanted to do a site. We were tired of looking at other sites and saying what we would do differently. We found this one DK site once that bashed DKR, DKC3, and many others. Why would you even run a site if you didn't like half of the stuff you were covering? Thankfully we think that site is no more.
I'm writing to tell you that your website about Donkey Kong is visible
on Internet ExploDer only.
Netscape users can only see the background.
-Valerio
Chad: Netscape sucks. Takes too long for everything to load. Anyway, the only page that wasn't working was Games, and now it's fixed. Bugger off.
I made this funny picture of Chunky. Although he looks like he's wearing a
pot like Johnny Appleseed.
[Unable to display image]
I also made this picture of Banjo. It's the best I've ever did! In
Banjo-Kazooie, Chimpy Kong called Banjo a fat bear. This makes sense.
[Unable to display image]
Well, I've attached these files into this letter, like you said.
-NES Boy
PS: I sent a letter to scribes to post a B-T render of Kazooie out of Banjo's
backpack.
PPS: Here is my own impression of your letters section:
"Hi! Can you post yet another picture of Pikachu getting killed?
Chad: We always do."
PPPS: Sorry I keep sending you letters.
ARSE (Look into Rareware's Scribes if you're confused about this one): "Who
wants to melt SirSlush2? I do!!" - NintenGenius (Watch out, Slush!)
Slush: Your files are corrupted man! We can't put them up. Send working ones next time.
P.S. Good. A solo render would be a site to see.
P.P.S. We never do. Pikachu has not been killed ONCE in any of our pictures. It's like that part near the beginning of the movie Batman and Robin that guaranteed the audience that the movie was in fact retarded and that the franchise had gone to Hell. Mr. Freeze had Batman and Robin in a position where he could snuff them out...and he walked away and said, "I'll kill 'ya later!" That's exactly what we're doing with Pikachu. Getting him in a bad position, hurting him, and then letting him go.
PPPS: Cower from the toothpick fracas!
ARSE: Oooh, I'm scared! Basically, I've been used to those death threats by now.
Dear Chad,
That sidekicks article was great. When, I think about it, Diddy really has proven that a sidekick character can go on and make great games without the "big guy" guiding the way.
And hey, putting a picture of Luigi, Arthur Diddy and that purple guy from McDonals was funny. Speaking of Arthur, did you know him and the Tick are back? This time in live action. That guy who played Puddy on Seinfeld will be playing the Tick. Sounds good...
And as for Shortround being one of the best sidekicks ever, well, I'm pretty much with you on that one Moneypenny.
Anyways, my point is that I would like to say that it was great article!
Thanks,
-Little Luigi
Chad: Wow, thanks! I got so many compliments about that feature, but I decided to post this one because.... it was the only one. Anyway, thanks for the praise. You should compliment Slush on the picture, as he came up for the concept for it. That's how most of our comedic pictures go: He does the concept, I do the artwork. And glad you like Short Round as much as we. Another great quote is, "Wow, holy smokes! Cwash landing!"
What about Virtual Boy and the game Mario's Tennis? This game starred DK jr.
or in other words Donkey Kong, but as a baby. I don't know how they did it
considering that Donkey Kong Country (I think) came out before this "Mario's
Tennis" game. Also, what about Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Donkey Kong 3,
and Donkey Kong Math for NES. Or are these games just for when Rareware had
their hands and rights on Donkey Kong?
-(Bucca)
Slush: Read our FAQ, boy. Mario's Tennis is explained in it. In fact, your entire letter is explained. Several times over in fact. Here's a Mr. Mooney award for your negligence (hint: it's not a badge of honor this time around). Ye-us!
Chad,
I don't know if you read it yet, but a letter apparently by you got
pubilshed on Rares' Scribes today. It asked if the Tricky in DP was the
same Tricky in DKR. Here's Loveday's disappointing response:
In a way... No. When the game started development he was the same dinosaur,
but as it has now changed completely from the original design we've kept his
name but essentially he's a different dinosaur.
They also said DP will have nothing to do with DKR or its' "To Be Continued"
message either. Sorry to get you down, but it looks like DP won't be a DKU
game. Sorry to let you guys down, but I guess you just shouldn't have gone
and said that DP is definitely a DP game without making sure!
Sorry to tell you the news,
-Behonkiss(No, it was never American for arse. And now I'm depressed that DP
won't be part of the DKU.)
Chad: You certainly were one to immediately laugh in my face about this, weren't you? I was depressed enough as it is when I read Scribes, the last thing I needed was someone pointing it out again (and again, as it was with NDK64 Guy). Well, the game is still DKU. Hwa! Hah!
Dear Person,
I have some simple questions that I want you to answer for, Phor if you don't
I will be sad and will probably go crazy.
1. Here's a weird theory about the DK. show. In DK64 there are crystal
coconuts, and Cranky Kong is a lab guy. Could the DK show be a copy of early
designs of chartacters? It has actually been out in Canada a long time,
possibly before DKC 2. Could the horribly screwed Dixie be based on an early
design? Are the other factors based on early prospects of DK64? Will Pokemon
ever make since... nevermind.
2Can you only draw Pikachu being killed? Could you draw Diglet or Magikarp
being brutally murdered
3 What are your and Chad's favorite Pokemons, and don't say somethind like
"My favorite Pokemon is a dead butt!" or else. And you won't like else. It
hurts.
4 What is your opinion of Monster Rancher? It's not a Pokemon ripoff, since
it was made in 1997.
-ADReyes@aol.com
Slush: 1: I doubt that. I think Dixie and the other characters were just screwed up because the people making it were only given a few basic facts about Donkey Kong Country games, and the rest was up to them. Crystal coconuts were in DK64, in my opinion, because Rare wanted to make the DKC show a little less atrocious (even though I don't know if they've ever seen it). Same things with potions and Cranky as Bill Nye the Queer Science Guy.
2: We NEVER SHOW PIKACHU GETTING KILLED. REPEAT, WE NEVER SHOW PIKACHU GETTING KILLED. And no. We don't want to hurt different varities of Pokemon at the time, because Pikachu is such a lovely target. But you mentioned Magikarp. Since you "like" sea creatures, here's a Nemo from Donkey Kong Land molesting Pikachu. Enjoy!
3: My favorite Pokemon is Missingno, becuase he drives Nintendo Power crazy. Chad likes Aerodactyl (who I admit I've never heard of), because it's unpopular and apparently dead at the start of the game.
4: I think Monster Rancher is a nifty game premise. Too bad I've never played it, because of my refusal to buy a Playstation. I was intrigued by it when I first heard about it though, but it came out in 1997, the year the DKU entered the N64 (and Donkey Kong Land III was introduced). So it didn't really bother me much.
chad,
i knew you were a wiz on the comp but how in the world did you get that
pic of al gore on there? well i better go. talk to you later. thanks 4 the
address
-stephanie
Chad: When I signed on to do this (har har) I didn't expect people acting like they knew me writing in. I've gotten stuff like "Yo, Chad, wazap, G dawg? Yo site kicks aaaaiiisssss! Well, I gotta go man, Peaze out, TTYL". Rather creepy. Anyway, thanks for the compliments, I suppose. And we did the Al Gore picture through the magic of Paint Shop Pro.
i just checked the charts and dk's popularity and value is twice that of pikachu and friends. Dk and dk vs. a pikaspew and a jigglypoop. Needless too say the lev. 2 a.i. DK"S whooped the level 9(!) Poke'crack heads.
see you later.
-SeanMR68
