The DKU

11/15/99

Hey peoplez! :) Hey Chad and Slush!!! N-E-Wayz enough with the greetings, I don't know anything about Donkey Kong so if ya'll think I'm kinda stupid because I don't know this that's otay. O.K. here is my question: Why is his name Donkey Kong??? If you know this don't laugh at me cause I don't, hehe! Talk to ya laterz, Adios! :)
-Meleigh007@aol.com

Yes, let's say hey to all those strange "peoplez" that we don't know. And while we're at it, why not invite them in for pie, only to have our limbs severely lacerated and our TV stolen. But there is a very good answer behind your general question. When Shigeru Miyamoto created the original Donkey Kong game on Coleco, it was a Japan-only release. In Japanese, the title translated to "Monkey Kong". When the game was eventually transported to the states, a translation error landed the lovable ape the name of Donkey Kong. Thank God for the new name, because Chimpy the monkey is about all the species instability we can take.

I found Mr. Pants in Jet Force Gemini! He's on Tawfret at the end of the large hall with all the thick collumns in it. You made him very hard to find, not like I was looking for him or anything, I found him purely by accident. Besides, Mr. Pants is not a graphical feast that utilises all of Rare's artistic talent. I do think it was a pretty phat idea to put him in the game though. Thanks for putting so much time into making this game a great one.
-Justin Teague

P.S. Do I get anything for finding him without any help.

Huh? Okay.....yes. You're welcome for us here at the Vine for making such a great game. We put in a lot of hard effort for that game, and it payed off in the end. Wait until you see what we have cooked up for DK64 though! Hoho! Oh, and you get in our letters section for finding him without any help. Although a good smack across the face would be much better in your odd condition.

Dang. I was really hoping there would be a fat arsed monkey named josh in the game. Hmph..well there goes my good day. Anywayz.. Thanx for your answers. And as for that "Up yours comment"...Bite me!
*Ciao boyz*
Nice job on the site.
-The most wonderful, talented, and gorgeous Lisa

I don't know whether to congratulate you on having the first Letters picture posted, or to be frightened. Don't you people have questions about the DKU? Anyway, the picture is amazingly realistic. I am still pondering over how you did the furry shenanigans just like Rare! Great job! But sorry, Rare hasn't announced a fat-arsed monkey named Josh in the next game. And it seems that the next game will be upon us in a matter of days, doesn't it? And it's the most secretive DKU title to date, so you never know.
Note: I was being sarcastic.
And one last thing. Now we know that "Garcia" is named "Lisa". So, everyone ask every person you know named Lisa if they are Garcia. And if they say yes, give them a smack in the face.

Ah! Thank you for having the same opinions on that blasted tv show as me! It blows big time! Agh....the songs....Dixie's wardrobe....DIDDY AND DK'S VOICES! DIDDY'S ON HELIUM! DK'S AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN! It's scary and screwy! Thanks, man!
-Behonkiss@aol.com

You're welcome! Although I must say that DK is technically an African anyway. But not an African-American! Still, his voice is wrong (as well as Diddy's) and we salute you for having such respected taste.

Hi all ! ...... First things first. I am 49 years old and LOVE Donkey Kong. I had the original and could rack up over a million points on it. I own and have completed all three of the Donkey Kong triolgy .... or have I ? Here's my dilema. I have found 101 levels in DK 1. I know that this is complete. I have completed 103 levels in DK 3 and I am pretty sure this is complete. In Donkey Kong 2 I have reached 102. Now most people tell me this is complete but I am convinced that they are wrong for several reasons. Of course there is the level where Donkey Kong is pulled up to the ship. When you hit pause and try to exit you cannot. Now some have tried to expalin that this is really not a level so the rules don't apply but to this I say rubbish. I contend that it is a level and for some reason IT IS NOT COMPLETE. Also how about the treasure chest that we constantly see even in the logo. We never do find it, or at least I haven't. How about the big black X that stares us in the face every time we go to a secret level and that is situated right where this stronghold is located. And last but certainly not least is the following analysis of the classroom and what is on the blackboard. We all know what is on the blackboard but do you know that it is a MAGIC SQUARE. If you add the numbers across and then add the numbers down they both equal 47. Also please think about the following:
The Numbers as written on the blackboard with the cryptic clue: "All my hints are helpful except for one"
9-3=6
8+1=9
4+2=5

Now let's arrange these numbers in a magic square format.
9+3+6=18
8+1+9=18
4+2+5=11
----------------------
21+6+20=47

Now let's find Pi:
1.
936
819
425
2.
936
819
425

3.
936
819
425
4.
936
81(1)9
425

Just follow this sequence on, using the value for Pi which according to my computer is: 3.14159265489793238462
Now I have to ask you guys ...... Where is the 103 level in this game and what secrets does this game really hold. I have worked on this for over 2 years and am now willing to accept help. Also one time on the last level I got King K.Rool somehow to sit in the chair. I haven't been able to do it since and the time I did do it Dixie was being sent flying to the right and below. So the game ended before I could see what would happen next. Is this something that you also have been able to achieve. If you don't have the answers please try to find them for me as I have written to Nitendo and they have not responded.
And finally needless to say I told my family that I would not get Nintendo 64 until they came out with a new Donkey Kong quest game. Needless to say you know what will be under the tree this year.
Please respond as I would like to clear up all loose ends before beginning DK 64.
-Don Barone

Whoo, this one's a doozy. I have no idea what you're on, but apparently you must be talking about Kong Kollege in DKC2. I see your magic square thing, but I really think it was a fluke. While saying this, though, I admire your persistence with this, as I have been trying to find an airplane dogfight arena in DKR for some time now. But to focus on what you said, I basically followed you until you started to talk about Pi, which at first made me hungry, then made me confused. Pi has nothing to do with your "magic squares". But good job, I guess. There are and always will be 102 levels in DKC2. And I highly doubt that you got K. Rool to sit down in the cockpit of the Crock, because the chair is rendered along with the background, and for him to be behind it, it would have to be an active object...which it is not. And if you want answers from the big N, you should probably try to ask the correct N, because I have never heard of this "Nitendo" you speak of. Oh, and I'm glad you're letting your tikes run around in the wonderful DKU. It shows there's some sanity left in the world. And I had lost all hope...

I know you just explaind why you don't like the DKC TV show, but those aren't errors,

-Bluster Kong
I know sometimes he's anoying, but you can't just say he doesn't exist, then forget about him.
What do you mean we can't just say he doesn't exist and forget about him? Rare doesn't even know who he is! Stuff that happens in the show doesn't happen in the games.
-"Kongo Bongo" Island instead of Donkey Kong Island.
DK lives on both.
Because that makes sense.
-They break out in song and dance around. One of the main things that kills the show.
The're related to the monkeys on Disney's Tarzan.
See my above comment.
-Candy Kong looks like a male orangutan and is a true botch.
She does look a lot differant, but...... next question.
Haha! Checkmate!
-Bluster Kong.

-Diddy's voice is even more annoying than in Diddy Kong Racing.
I didn't like Diddy's voice in DKR, but I like it in the show.
So does GLAAD.
-They call K. Rool "Ka Rool."
How do you know that isn't how you say it?
Because his name isn't Ka Rool. If his name was K Rool, then you would have a point. But there is a period after the "K." It's an initial.
-There is only one Klump and Krusha. There should be a whole army.
K. Rool clones them, but his cloning factory is on Crockadile Isle.
Uh huh. If he clones them, then why not just use the clones? Plus, it was revealed in DKC2 where the Kremlings come from, and cloning has nothing to do with it.
-Klaptrap guns. Klaptraps do not come from guns. They also don't turn into weird balls of energy that dissolve Cranky's roof in every episode.
Those are a differant kind of Klaptraps.
The stupid kind, I suppose?
-What's up with Dixie's wardrobe?
She went to the store, and bought new clothes, like Swanky, and most of the other Kongs did for DKC3.
But Donkey and Diddy remained somewhat faithful to their wardrobes in the show. Dixie's costume is just sad. There's a tradition of the helper Kongs switching clothes between games, but not the playable ones.
-Bluster Kong.
Read above.
Read above.
-In one episode Dixie thinks Donkey is hitting on her. That's wrong for two reasons. Age and species.
And she gets mad.
If an elderly Llama hit on me I would be disgusted, not mad. And then I would be confused.
-No animal buddies!
The animals live on DK Island, not Kongo Bongo.
Why can't they live on both like DK and the Kongs? Cough cough.
-The pirates are rivals with K. Rool, where in the games K. Rool IS the pirate!
Those are differant pirets.
Okay wiseguy, but one of them looks like Kannon (who is also Klump in the games), and Kannon works for K. Rool, and they are pirates. Plus, K. Rool hates those pirates in the show, so why would he become one in DKC2?
-Funky is nude and has blonde fur. And that jamacain accent is a far cry from the way his text was written in the games. Plus he's a moron, where in the games Funky is the most intelligent Kong.
It just looks like he isn't wearing anything because he has blond hair. I didn't like the jamacain accent at first, but now I do.
........but he doesn't have blonde fur in the games.
-No Wrinkly or Swanky. Kiddy is understandable, because the cartoon was developed before DKC3.
Wrinkly, Swanky, and Kiddy live on DK Island.
Actually, I kind of checkmated myself there. Wrinkly and Swanky lived on Crocodile Isle before DKC2 ended. Still, they should at least mention them. I mean, the show apparently takes place before DKC2 (but was made after), but Cranky talked about his wife in DKC!
-Bluster Kong
Read above.
Read above.
-The barrel factory. That's just lame.
They have to be made somewhere.
But why is it a focal point of the show?
-No banana hoard!
That's on DK Island.
Sigh. But DK is always lacking bananas on the show. He has PUH-LENTY of them. And yet he can't take some with him on his supposed island switching?
-THE CRYSTAL COCONUT
Is what K. Rool tries to steel on Kongo Bongo.
I'm just saying......THE CRYSTAL COCONUT. We're not the only ones that hate it, morally and socially.
-DK has the DK on his tie, where Diddy doesn't have the stars on his shirt. In the games, Diddy had the stars before DK had the....DK.
He's whering his old shirt.
But DK didn't get the DK tie until Mario Party. Diddy got the star shirt in Diddy Kong Racing. This show of yours takes place before both.
-Donkey talks like a beatnick. And he's a stupid moron.
Have you ever heard him talk in any of the games?
"I was dreaming about the biggest pile of bananas ever...."
-Cranky plays the "straight man" in the show, where in the games Cranky is the comedy relief.
He is the comedy relief, remember when- Oh yeah, you don't watch the show.
Then why is he always getting Donkey out of his hair brained schemes? Cranky should be the one in befuddlement if he were to be humorous.
-Eddie Kong? Kill me.
His name is not Eddie Kong, it's Eddie, the mean old yeti.
But every ape's name is Kong. But I'll play by your rules. Eddie? Kill me.
-A Klump style Kremling is purple, not green!
How do you know the purple on him, wasn't just a tan?
........................eh That's skin?
-Bluster Kong.
Read above.
Read above.
-What's the deal with DK's treehouse? Cranky's Mansion, er, Cabin? All the houses look wrong!
They aren't the same houses from the games.
Because they're all millionaires courtesy of Regis Philben.
-K. Rool's lair is on the Kongs' island. The closest K. Rool has ever had to an actual fortress in the area where the Kongs' live is in Kastle KAOS, and there he was just hiding out behind that curtain. He has been hiding in the jungles lately gearing up for DK64, but that doesn't count as a "lair."
Factory, not lair. And he owned that factory even before Kongs came to that island.
My comments above about your multiple island shall explain this, so I will not comment.
-Banana Slamma is a horrible buzz word.
He says banana, because they make him stronger, and slamma becaues he's going to slamma the Kremlings if they don't give back the coconut.
That doesn't change the fact that it's horrible.
-Bluster Kong.
Once agan, read above.
SIGH.
-Sgalbra214@prodigy.net

It's not that I disrespect your opinions. This is an open forum of discussion. I just disrespect the show. Thank goodness it's been moved to a time where I can't find it. That way when I'm channel surfing and the batteries go dead, I won't be trapped.

Do you think Dixie will be in DK64?
-"Diddy"

Thank you! Finally! A letter that is simple, and to the point. I do believe this was the best written letter out of the lot that wrote in. Okay, well, since you are reportedly in the game, "Diddy", you should tell me. But since you asked so nicely, with such a well thought-out letter, I suppose we'll give you a straightforward answer. Rare's Leigh Loveday has said on the topic, "We never said all Kongs would be included." You have to love their ability to answer questions while still leaving some ambiguity, eh? We think that it's unlikely that Dixie will play a vital role in the game, but she may very likely sprout in for the multiplayer mode. It would be very easy to give her Tiny's coding attributes, wouldn't it?
