Explanation

We simply don't have the time to keep the site up the way we would like to. That's what it boils down to. I've got too much going on with school, various extracurriculars, and my tiny semblance of a social life to even think about sleeping, much less working on a website. I hadn't even played a video game for three weeks until last weekend, and time won't make the situation improve. Until summer, things can only get worse. Chiphead is in the same boat, and although Saf is less busy, it's not fair for us to shove the brunt of the site onto him. After thinking for a while, I've come up with a new way to do things around here. Hopefully it will change the situation for the better.

The first problem is that the time I do have to work on the site is filled with catching up on everything I've missed. It makes it hard to keep interested in the site, when you can only justify your time by removing logos from the 150 screenshots that were released last month. That's no way to stay productive.

As such, the first part of the new system is that we've given up trying to keep up with news, screenshots analyses, and so forth. They take up too much time, become a somewhat of a drudgery very quickly, and take time away from doing other, more fun and interesting things. Instead, the messageboard has been changed around a bit to perform that duty. See something newsworthy? Make a topic about it. It's like having a built-in comments system. The same goes for media. We can discuss and analyze them to our hearts content. This will be more efficient and pool more minds for a better overall result. For those of you who aren't part of the messageboard, we'll have some sort of weekly-recap system so you don't miss out, but this would be a perfect time to join.

Second of all, other content will now be open to all readers on a submission basis. Simply e-mail us an article and if we like it, we'll put it up. Don't worry if your writing isn't very good. Practice makes perfect, and if a serious article is turned down, we'll reply with reasons, tips, encouragements, and whatnot. The point isn't to discourage people. We'll also be contributing as much as we can, of course, but we'll have more time to spend on what we enjoy and make it as good as we can, rather than forcing deadlines on ourselves to cope with the ever-decreasing update frequency.

Pretty much everything is open to submission. Artwork, reviews, impressions, features, etc. You can create a new type of article, if you like, but it still requires our approval. The one major exception is continuity-based items like bios or the Timevine. We'll still handle those because too many people with different ideas and theories would become a confused and tangled mess. Points can be made and unmade on the messageboard, but we'll have the ultimate say about what's what in the DKU.
